Help-How to Ask a Family Friend for an Internship
Hi I'm currently a junior and recently know that a family friend moved up to a very senior role at a PE in an area that I am extremely interested in. I and my father had dinner with him once and we spoke over the phone twice on how to advance in this particular field so I don't know if this relationship could be characterized as close or not. Can anybody give some advice on how to approach this whole asking for the internship process? Should I directly ask him or should I ask my dad to call him etc.? I desperately want to have it so any advice is welcomed. Thanks!
Bump, OP here. At a top target if that matters.
Following
Set up the call, shoot the shit about your families, your dad, etc., then ask “the reason I am calling today is to ask if you would be open to me interning at your firm / if your firm has any internship opportunities” (depending on how much you can stomach “making the ask”)
Hi OP here. Thanks for your suggestion! My other concern is that he only moved up to his current position for like 2 weeks. Is it better to wait for a couple weeks for him to settle down before the ask or just straight up? Also is it better to pay him a physical visit and ask him on site than calling which seems a bit cold?
set up zoom conference. we're in quarantine remember. (or I am)
