HH Calls 2027

I’ve noticed that headhunter outreach for the 2027 associate class has already picked up pretty aggressively. I know some bigger names like Amity, have started setting up intro calls, but I haven’t heard much from some of the other smaller names like BellCast, Gold Coast, SG Partners, or Oxbridge. Are those firms running later this year, or are they just being more selective early on? I am at a mid-tier BB for reference, so not sure if they just haven't reached out because they are being more selective or not.

Also curious if anyone has heard any intel on timing for on-cycle or early off-cycle processes. Last year things kicked off around training and seem to be moving earlier each cycle — could it even be over the summer break this time around, or possibly before?

Appreciate any thoughts or updates — thanks!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. Headhunter Outreach:

    • Firms like Amity are known to start early with intro calls, as you've observed.
    • For smaller names like BellCast, Gold Coast, SG Partners, and Oxbridge, their timelines can vary:
      • BellCast: Typically professional but focuses on MM and LMM firms. They might not be as aggressive early on.
      • Gold Coast: Known for representing tech-focused MMs on the West Coast, they may also have a slightly delayed start.
      • SG Partners: Outreach can be inconsistent; some candidates report receiving emails but not much follow-up.
      • Oxbridge: Often starts with easy intro meetings where they ask candidates to name firms of interest. They focus on MM and LMM firms outside NYC/Boston, so timing may depend on their client needs.
  2. Selectivity:

    • If you're at a mid-tier BB, it's possible that some headhunters are being more selective early on, prioritizing candidates from top-tier BBs or EBs. However, this doesn't mean you won't hear from them later in the process.
  3. On-Cycle and Off-Cycle Timing:

    • On-cycle recruiting has been trending earlier each year. Historically, it has kicked off around training, but there’s speculation that it could move even earlier, potentially during summer break or before.
    • Off-cycle processes are more ad-hoc and can vary significantly by firm. Some firms may start early off-cycle recruiting as a way to secure top talent before the on-cycle frenzy begins.

If you're not hearing from certain headhunters yet, it might be worth proactively reaching out to them to express interest and ensure you're on their radar. Networking and staying informed about timelines will be key as the process continues to evolve.
