How Do I Catch Up In Terms of Technicals and Modeling?

I did M&A at a top MM IB in a major city and am now almost a year into my LMM PE gig in a small city. I did a lot of analysis at my IB, but never really built a full model during my time there. My LMM PE gig uses pretty basic models and we don't do any in-depth analyses. Because of this, I'm extremely weak in both technicals and modeling.

I'm worried that when I go recruit for my next job, I'll be at a severe disadvantage in terms of technicals and modeling, especially given that it seems the competition has intensified lately.

I'm willing to put in the hours, but all I have are guides and online tutorials that I feel like are pretty simplified and basic in nature. What are some resources I can use to catch up? Should I maybe find a mentor or someone online that can show me the ropes?

I do my own investing, so I found that a good way to improve my abilities overall and give myself a useful way to practice modelling was to try out interesting thesis myself.

If you think a firm is ripe to be acquired, build out a model for a potential acquirer. The benefit is also that in your next interview you’ll be able to speak to how seriously you take investing both at work and outside.
