I’ve closed 1 platform over 2 years; concentrated portfolio with ~8 investments and ~5 associates, so it’s fine. Still worked like a dog with that deal, others, and lots of portco Shit. People emphasize # of deals closed too much. As long as you’re actively learning (even on failed pursuits) and re-applying what you learn, still a good path to promotion or good lateral. Closing deals as a junior is luck of the draw just like in banking.

Same thoughts as the person above as the # being more luck of the draw. Similar to you I've closed 1 platform in my first year, have ran pretty hard on 3 - 4 that we didn't end up winning and looked closely at a few add ons which didn't pan out. Nothing I really could've done which would've resulted in more closed, so not losing sleep over it.

One platform per year is just fine and in some cases quite good. Part of it depends on market conditions. I was a PE associate from 2009 - 2011 and did 1 platform, 3 bolt-ons, and 1 sale. I considered this quite fortunate when a lot of my peers did 0 platforms in this period.
