How to find comparable companies that meet acquisition targets

Hello,

By way of introduction, I am a second-year finance student at a semi-target university trying to land a search fund/PE internship for summer 2021. Currently, I am trying to conduct valuations on four private companies that have little financial data accessible online for a PE firm. I have the latest reported sales data for two out of the four target companies but that's all. I think my best option is to conduct public comps to muster some sort of valuation. How should I go about this? I have access to Capital IQ, Mergent Online, and PrivCo but am inexperienced in screening. Also, what resources should I use to find comparable companies? I have until tomorrow night to finish the questions. Any feedback is appreciated.
