I know the head of the PE fund I'm applying too..

So many years ago in 2021/2022 whilst I was a junior associate we were advising a megafund on a deal, whilst on the deal I impressed one of the partners during a call and he ended up messaging me after and invited me out for a lunch which i ofc went to and and we hit it off. We formed a strong bond during the length of the deal, and he even invited me out again for a drink / dinner on a few occasions over the 6 month deal. We would talk about a bunch of things such as areas we thought would be good to invest etc.. and our personal portfolio etc.. and we just naturally got on well.

It's now been 5 years and he's been promoted to the head of the fund and I saw they are hiring for a VP position which I really want to apply to.

The problem is, I'm unsure whether to just apply or try reach out to him.. but the problem is.. i never kept in touch with him after the deal.. naturally life just got busy and more deals came in etc.. and eventually 5 years has past by.

So I'm unsure if he will even remember me.. and also I don't even remember his email and I didn't add him on linkedin as we would normally just email eachother whenever he invited me out for dinner etc. but now I've left that bank I don't have access to my emails anymore.

Should I try connect with him on linkedin or try guess his email from memory and shoot my shot? Or should i just apply normally?

Yes, you autist. Message him. Keep it cool.

OP is probably just Asian rather than autistic. Many young Asian American men have this weird "asking for permission" mentality. Probably has something to do with Confucian values, deference towards authority, etc.
