IB/PE in Canada - Entry-level
Hi,
I'm a final year undergrad student specializing in Finance at India's rank #1 undergrad b-school. I'm looking to move to Canada and pursue a pre-experience Masters to further pursue my career, preferably in Toronto, and wanted to know the bottlenecks of breaking into IB/PE there.
Some of the programs I'm considering - McGill MMF, UoT MFE (as these are the best ranked for finance in Canada). Would be really helpful if anyone could state if this makes sense in terms of the recruitment of entry-level jobs IB/PE in Toronto.
Or please any other recommendations?
Profile for Reference:
1. High GPA
2. GMAT - 740
3. Target Undergrad
4. Internships - 2 [Startups - Founder's Office (Strategy), Seed fundraising]
5. Financial Modelling certified
6. overall good acads ,ECA
Thanks
Would you be competitive for an analyst stint, maybe. But really no more than anyone else at those programs.
The ranking of your undergrad school will not matter to recruiters tbh, they'll focus on your Masters here.
Yes, that makes sense. Any recommendation on what I should do from now on apart from networking so to have a good chance getting a SA or FT there during my Masters ?
All the standard keep your GPA up, do case comps, finance related extracurriculars.
For Toronto, networking is the biggest chunk of it. Impactful networking, not just meeting a ton of people. You need people to champion your resume come recruiting time
Won’t be easy, you’ll have to network your ass off. Not sure if the MFE will help tbh
Yes, I heard that the recruiting is mainly driven by networking there. Wanted to know is it because McGill, UoT are not targets, or getting a job in Toronto would be difficult being in Montreal, or something else. Also, why won't the MFE help?
No offence but no one in North America cares if you were the top student at India's top business school. Our culture is prejudiced by nature.
es, that makes sense. Any recommendation on what I should do from now on apart from networking so to have a good chance getting a SA or FT there during my Masters ?
