Relatively transferable, arguably a lot easier to move across continents in IR than if you did banking or outright investment role. It’s not even just the value of LP connections (it’s relatively easy to spin that you might bring an Asian or US LP that’s not well covered on the other side of the world) but also that it’s a far more niche role that is harder to fill with good and experienced candidates.


Having said that, as a Singaporean I thought you’re basically guaranteed the H1B(1?) visa due to treaty status anyway?

You'll be fine. As long as you have Singaporean roots, you'll definitely get plenty of looks when you do decide to make the move back to SG. Given the recent boom in immigration to Singapore (China lockdown, HK shitshow, etc.), there will be plenty of IR opportunities in SG and the region generally.
