Is 3 statement model in PE case an unsaid given?

Most cases I have come across say if you have time you may want to make 3 statements, not necessary though. Idk how to interpret this? Also separately, should one reallyyy think through the change in margins adding input from recommendation/ business case or just follow along with historicals?

Three statements is the standard for most tests, but the drivers are oftentimes simplified to save time / abridged CF statements are common.  I would recommend deviation from the management case / historicals for line items like revenue / gross margins.  It demonstrates a critical lens and ability to think for oneself.  In addition, it does not really matter if your predictions are right in the context of a case (you just need to be able to explain your rationale).
