Is international mobility doable at PE firms?

Based in the UK and goal is to move to the US permanently. From what I've seen this is relatively doable in banking as the large banks typically sponsor visas for international office transfers. However I haven't heard any insight if this is the case for PE firms.

I've read that it's basically impossible to recruit for PE from banking after moving internationally as they won't sponsor a new visa for new hires, however will they sponsor an international office transfer for current employees? E.g. associate in PE firm in London moving to the firms US office.

I'm interested in both PE and banking, leaning towards PE but moving to US is my main goal so would stay in banking if moving within PE wasn't possible.

Appreciate any insight, thanks.

Short answer is yes. I did this the other direction (US to Europe) at the associate level at a MF. I think so long as you're a good employee and the firm wants to retain you, they'd gladly move you rather than lose you. I'd find it hard to believe not all smart firms would recognized this, but of course dynamics at each fund are different. Hope this is helpful and good luck!
