KKR Capital Markets

Anyone have any info on the capital markets team for KKR? I’ve read it’s a huge part of their business but cannot find any info on it at all. Also do they hire with PA backgrounds or is it more LevFin/IB backgrounds. Aswell if anyone has gone through the Interview process I’d love to know what was asked as there is also ZERO info online about this team. Thanks in advance

Based on the most helpful WSO content, KKR's Capital Markets team is indeed a significant part of their business. This team plays a crucial role in structuring and executing financing solutions for KKR's portfolio companies and investment activities. They often work closely with the firm's private equity, real estate, and credit teams to optimize capital structures and secure funding.

Backgrounds They Hire:

  • LevFin/IB Backgrounds: The team typically leans towards candidates with leveraged finance (LevFin) or investment banking (IB) experience, as these roles provide the necessary skills in structuring and executing complex financing deals.
  • Private Equity (PE) Backgrounds: While less common, candidates with prior private equity experience may also be considered, especially if they have strong deal execution and capital markets exposure.

Interview Process:

While specific details about the KKR Capital Markets interview process are scarce, you can expect it to align with the broader KKR interview style: 1. Technical Questions: Be prepared for in-depth technical questions, including leveraged buyouts (LBOs), debt structuring, and financial modeling. A strong understanding of accounting, DCF, and comps is essential. 2. Behavioral Questions: Expect questions about your deal experience, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. Be ready to discuss your resume in detail. 3. Case Studies: You might encounter case studies or practical exercises related to structuring financing solutions or evaluating capital structures. 4. Fit and Culture: KKR places a strong emphasis on cultural fit, so be prepared to articulate your interest in the firm and how your background aligns with their values.

Tips for Preparation:

  • Brush up on leveraged finance concepts, including debt instruments, covenants, and capital structure optimization.
  • Review your deal experience and be ready to discuss your role, challenges faced, and outcomes.
  • Practice behavioral questions to ensure you can clearly communicate your story and motivations.

If you're looking for more insights, networking with current or former KKR employees on LinkedIn or attending industry events could provide valuable firsthand information.
