Lateralling in IB hurt PE outlook?
If you were to lateral from a lesser-known boutique to a BB/EB at the analyst level, is UMM/MF recruitment out of the question?

As with most things in this industry, your general resume "appearance" matters a lot. What I mean by this is having a conventionally successful story of a brand name school to a brand name bank to eventually a brand name fund.
In your situation (assuming you're still incoming), I'd focus on lateraling sooner than later. The less time spent at a lesser known bank, the stronger your chances. However, I've seen it done many times before, so I wouldn't fret if you are able to make the transition. Just note that you might have to be ready to accept 3 years in IB vs. the more traditional 2.
