LBO Case Study - Can you crack it?

Monkeys,
I had a case study round a few months ago and it was an absolute bastard.
I've been trying to crack it in my own time and no matter how many models I make, the bugger won't balance.

Can you crack it? The instructions are nuanced, especially as its only 2.5hrs, you have to project pre-transaction stub periods to get the right S&U cash for the transaction, then project PF.

Pls PM if you wanna have a crack at it and I'll send over the case.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and steps to tackle an LBO case study effectively:

  1. Understand the Company:

    • Read the Executive Summary: Understand what the company does, its growth story, whether it's a mature business, or undergoing a turnaround.
    • Analyze the P&L: Look for main trends such as strong top-line growth but poor profitability, or weak top-line growth with improving margins.
    • Check the Balance Sheet: Determine if the business is asset-light or capital-intensive, and assess its leverage or cash reserves.
    • Review the Cash Flow Statement: Evaluate the sustainability of the operating cycle and the level of Capex investment.
  2. Model Building:

    • 3-Statement Model: Ensure you can build a 3-statement model efficiently. This includes the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.
    • LBO Model: Practice building LBO models within tight time constraints. Familiarize yourself with templates and ensure you understand the mechanics of LBOs.
  3. Time Management:

    • Stub Periods: Accurately project pre-transaction stub periods to get the correct Sources & Uses (S&U) cash for the transaction.
    • Post-Transaction Projections: Project the post-transaction financials (Pro Forma).
  4. Practice and Resources:

    • WSO Guides: Utilize the WSO guide for paper and 1-hour LBOs. Practice building 3-statement LBOs off templates from your banking group.
    • Mock Cases: Engage in mock case studies to simulate the actual interview environment and improve your speed and accuracy.
  5. Handling Stress:

    • Structured Approach: Follow a structured approach to break down the case study into manageable parts.
    • Practice Under Time Constraints: Regularly practice under timed conditions to build confidence and efficiency.
