Seriously, they're an excellent fund. Yes, they are "below" the superfunds like Blackstone, KKR, etc... in terms of press exposure, but they are top notch, very well respected, and have an excellent track record, from what I understand. You're kidding yourself if you think you're shorting yourself by taking a job with them. I say this from experience working with them on deals and through the consensus of others with whom I work. Couldn't say enough good things.

Once more into the breach, dear friends.

I wasn't trying to disparage them in any way; I've heard good things about them also and definitely do not have enough experience with private equity to make any judgments. The intent of my question was to determine which funds are similar to MDP-in terms of size, lifestyle, whatever.

MDP had performed less than stellar recently, according to some people i've spoken with.

Comps include GTCR, H&F, Code Hennessey, LGP, New Mountain.

MDP is a bit bigger than some of these- i think they closed a 7bil fund last year.

Agree with WizardofOz. Those are all relatively good comps, though H&F is maybe a notch above. In terms of the others, I have a personal affinity for Code, but that's just me. Haven't heard a recent performance anecdote on MDP, so Wizard may know better, but judging by their growth in fund size, they didn't amass that much dry powder through a track record of crappy exits.

Once more into the breach, dear friends.
