MM Tech PE vs MM REPE - which one is better for exits and possibly happiness?

Hello monkeys,

I have 2 offers - one for a MM Tech PE fund in NYC, the other one for a REPE Shop, also in NYC. I'm not sure which to choose based on what I'm trying to optimize:

Comparison between offers:

  • Funds are similar size, similar track record, with REPE fund being slightly more prestigious
  • Both have fund size from $2b - $4b range, giving me the option to move downstream later on
  • Pay in tech PE is slightly higher but not significant
  • I don't mind either path, and I think I am equally skilled at both
  • People are equally as nice

My question: which path would provide me with more optionality and the ability to bounce back if I get laid off / not promoted? I am on a visa so I want to optimize for safety and quicker path to green card.

Thanks!
