Most overused phrase in finance
Curious what you think are the most overused buzz-phrases in finance. To the point they are completely devoid of meaning
I'll start with: "superior returns"

Career Resources
“More color” / “Small nit”
High level
“private equity approach to public markets investing”
that one's my favorite
“Mission critical”, “Best-in-class”, “Operating leverage”, “experienced management team”
For comments, hearing “small nit” gives me ptsd.
Was coming here to say "Mission critical"... don't think I've seen a deck that doesn't include that since I joined PE
Low hanging fruit, greenfield/whitespace opportunity, this is the new uber for ——
FUH-nance
TO THE MOON
"Let's do more work on this"
Deleted
Mission critical, buy down multiple, go to market, deep domain expertise, thematic approach, toehold investment, strong value creation,…
inflation
Back of the envelope
Pls fix
I'm pretty disappointed nobody said "robust" yet
“Provide clients with superior risk-adjusted returns”
"Blocking and Tackling" is one that comes to mind
More generically, "At the end of the day" but this is really particular to finance...
Let's get under the kimono but not do too much to recreate the wheel because we're not looking to boil the ocean.
“This shouldn’t be too hard”
Don’t forget ‘this should only take you 15 mins’
"Would be great to see..."
Leverage
"Let's leverage our knowledge", "Let's leverage this opportunity", "We need more leverage", "I have leverage over him, because he slept with my wife" etc.
“ETA?”
I hate almost all mentioned so far, but “let’s circle back” and “don’t boil the ocean” always made me want to punch a wall.
The phrase "Let's Circle Back" was how I knew Psaki had been a consultant without ever having heard her name before.
“revert”
"patient capital"
I've never heard the word "revert" so much as I did when I started banking. Now I can't stand that word. Same thing with "circle back" and "light comments."
Pls fix
I’ m in LMM. “Proprietary technology/process” for a company that is completely undifferentiated. “Platform”, “blue chip customer base” or something similar, “growth levers”, “diversified revenue streams”, “adjacencies”, “margin expansion”, “operational efficiencies”, “turnkey”, “value-add”, “tailwinds”, “ramp” or “runway for growth”, “ seasoned management team”, “thx”, “turn”, I could keep going but I’m going to keep drinking
“Tech-enabled, end-to-end platform”
This shouldn’t take too long :)
"strong balance sheet", "strong management team", "strong dick".
Illustrative (so we don't get sued.)
E-bit-d-a
Thank you
“How do we get comfort/conviction that…[anything completely unhelpful to the discussion].”
”How do we know all the customers won’t just leave as soon as we buy?” We don’t bro. But maybe look at the 20 pgs of customer / churn analyses that are highlighted as investment highlight #2.
Also, “let’s be thoughtful about…”
So do you have an actual point or do you want me to just think more?
"Open the kimono" , "tech-enabled"
“Trusted advisor”
