Off cycle PE Offer Process Timeline
For off-cycle buyside roles, can folks share how long it took after a final round (or near final round) for the buyside shop to get back to candidates with an offer/rejection decision?
It’s been a week since my final round at a MM PE fund in NYC (less than 15 professionals).
This is not a MF where offers are given within 24 hours of a super day.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, the timeline for off-cycle PE roles can vary greatly. It's not uncommon for the process to stretch from weeks to months. Some funds may not be as serious about hiring during off-cycle and may drag their feet on giving you the next round of interviews or an offer.
However, it's important to remember that every fund is different and there's no set rule. If it's been a week since your final round, it might be a good idea to follow up politely and express your continued interest in the role. But remember, patience is key in these situations.
And hey, don't let the waiting game get to you. Use this time to keep preparing and stay sharp. You've got this!

Took me a week to get reference request after final round for UMM in SF. Took an additional few days to get offer after that. If it’s a small team they can get busy and this will extend timeline.
These timelines vary a ton depending on how busy the team is.
No one here will know the answer unless they are on the team you’re interviewing for.
I know super hard to do but you just need to put it out of your mind and wait for the call. In the meantime I’d keep networking / prepping in case things don’t go your way. Best of luck
Curious what takes this long. Had a similar experience as OP. Had a superday a week ago. From coffee chat to superday, it was 4 days. And now I haven't heard back in over a week and my headhunter says they haven't given out any offers. What gives?
So all the decision makers on the team will want together and hash things out to decide who to offer. It’s not easy to get all those people in a room especially if there is a deal running.
Also if they have any contacts at your current employer they will often backchannel and ask around about you (assuming it’s not the kind of place you’d get in trouble for that).
Add those up and it can take a week to hear back even if it’s good news. Ofc sometimes you will hear back within hours but jsut really varies based on when the team can get together and how much back channeling they want to do/can do.
