Operationally-Focused PE: Where? How?

Nowadays in private equity, operational skills became the real driver of value creation.
But between growth buyout and deep-value LMM/MM buyout strategies, which one tends to be more operationally involved? Do they only differ in the portcos' industry, one is more tech/consumer, and the other is more old economy?

And for juniors, where should one actually learn operational skill sets?
3 years in IBD won’t get me anywhere close to understanding how to drive operational change—and frankly, I’m not sure years in consulting would either.

How do people truly develop this kind of capability ?

Thanks in advance for any insights, this would help me a lot and hopefully helpful to others too!
