ORIX Private Equity

Currently looking at a PE opportunity with the firm and was wondering if anyone had experience with them or general thoughts on their reputation, comp, etc.

As far as comp, I understand carry is typically not in the structure- is it made up for with stock-based compensation?

Any insight at all is helpful.

Based on previous WSO threads, here are some insights on compensation structures in private equity and related firms:

  1. Carry in Private Equity:

    • Carry (carried interest) is a common component of compensation in private equity, but its value can be uncertain and contingent on various factors. For instance, carry can be significantly delayed due to firm expenses or economic downturns, which can erode its value (Carry in REPE | Wall Street Oasis).
    • Some firms may offer carry without a vesting schedule, but this is less common and typically reserved for very senior positions (PE Comp Question - VP / Principal Level | Wall Street Oasis).
  2. Stock-Based Compensation:

    • In some cases, firms may offer stock-based compensation as part of the overall package. This can include stock options, stock grants, or stock awards, each with different vesting schedules and conditions (The Other Road: Corporate Development Associate Fielding Questions | Wall Street Oasis).
    • Stock compensation can be structured to vest over several years, ensuring long-term retention of employees (IB Sucks. I'm out | Wall Street Oasis).
  3. General Thoughts on Compensation:

    • It's important to consider the overall compensation package, including base salary, bonuses, and any stock or carry components. The net effect of carry can be less than expected due to various factors, so negotiating for a higher base salary and annual bonuses might be more beneficial (Carry in REPE | Wall Street Oasis).
    • The structure of compensation can vary significantly between firms and even within different roles at the same firm. It's crucial to understand the specific terms and conditions of any offer (First timer introduced to Co-invest + Carry: How to navigate? | Wall Street Oasis).

For specific insights on ORIX Private Equity, it would be beneficial to seek out individuals who have direct experience with the firm or consult additional resources and forums for more detailed information.

Probably the most dysfunctional "PE" firm out there. Incredibly beurocratic and with no real leadership. They launched a "secondaries" division a few years ago led by a guy in Texas who has no idea what he's doing / ran a 4% IRR fund of funds for a family office before. They're known as a group that allocates to low quality LMM and independent sponsor deals and get hardly anything done.
