Out of a PE Gig

I was in private equity but my firm conducted layoffs to trim headcount. I am struggling to find a new PE gig and now considering either private credit or going back to banking which I actually very much enjoyed and was very good at.

I would likely be a VP at middle market banks I have previous or strong relationships with or a senior associate type role at top BB banks or EBs. PC role would likely be associate / sr. associate position.

How would you go about determining next steps and what are the short-term and long-term comp differences? From my experience I find PC to be fairly boring and I actually enjoyed the advisory / banking work more which has me leaning towards banking.

Would appreciate anyone who has had experience in PC and IB to provide their experience.
