Yeah I’m in a relationship and live close to the office as well. Definitely want to make sure that I can exercise the dog and not just leave it inside all day

I got one while in banking - best decision I’ve ever made. Timing was good because it was just before the holidays so there was a lot of time coming up where I would be off or working from home. I also have a roommate that works a 9-5 so he can take him out and feed him later in the day.

What people don’t realize, is puppies sleep most of the day anyways and until they have all their shots they can’t really interact with other dogs or be out and about (so until about 4 months old). Biggest challenge is they pee and poop a lot so I’d recommend paying for as much training upfront as possible - it’s been a massive help for me. And to that point, assuming you aren’t getting a rescue, do a lot of research on breeders - if you find one that has therapy dogs go with that. Their dogs will have an incredible temperament and if you combine it with like 6 weeks of professional training it’s easy going.

But again, it really depends on the situation. It works for me because I’m rarely in the office past 7:30, wfh on Fridays, have a roommate that was willing to help and found a great dog walker that’s cheap. A lot of people tried to talk me out of it and tbh they were all wrong. It’s a lot of work up front and takes a lot of advanced planning but it’s very doable and only gets easier as they get older.

People who gets dogs in nyc are psychopaths(unless you live on Central Park west)

There are dog parks all throughout the city. People shouldn't be trying to keep a border collie or other high-energy working breeds in NYC, but the french bulldogs and dachshunds you see everywhere are perfectly fine with a few walks a day.

Central Park is actually not very dog friendly btw - dogs can only be off-leash from 6-9am in specific areas
