Path to PE

Hello, I just graduated from a top 15 US university with a degree in multiple quantitative majors. My major GPA is a 3.7 and overall is a 3.6 (including this in case I may get excluded from some PE shops for it being low). I took an offer at McKinsey starting in February that got pushed from my expected August start date. What is the usual path from consulting to PE? I have a quant background and do not necessarily want to be on the ops side of things. If it's not possible to get on the quant side from consulting, what do you recommend I do?

Thanks
