PE Associates in B-School -- What to do during summer internship?

Former PE associate in b school, planning to return to the industry after I graduate. What's the best way to spend my summer?

I don't think PE will be particularly helpful at this point, but maybe MBB consulting or some kind of strategy role at a FAANG company or a start-up?

would probably gravitate towards corp. strategy or ops roles in whatever industry your fund targets just to get some perspective from the other side, but startups could be interesting too

You have a lot of flexibility here to be honest. As long as you can tell a story on the back end recruiting side. For example, I think the FAANG role / startup isn't a difficult sell even assuming you aren't in tech oriented PE. You can easily spin that as you wanted to try something different and understand a phenomenon which has become so big over the past decade.

I work in manufacturing / industrials PE and ended up finding a pretty unique operating role for a family office where I was in pure operations at one of their businesses.
