PE Firms that Offer FT Returns in Toronto?

Which firms DO and DON'T offer FT Returns after completing an internship?

2nd year undergrad here, really stressed about S2026 recruiting.

Any info is appreciated.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s what you need to know about private equity firms and full-time return offers:

  1. Firms That Offer Full-Time Returns:

    • Some private equity firms, like Warburg Pincus, KKR, Carlyle, and General Atlantic, have been known to recruit undergraduates and offer full-time positions after internships. However, this is more common in the U.S. market. For Toronto, specific details on PE firms offering guaranteed full-time returns are less clear, but firms like Birch Hill, Northleaf, and Clairvest are prominent in the Canadian PE space and may have structured recruiting processes.
  2. Firms That May Not Guarantee Full-Time Offers:

    • It’s worth noting that not all firms guarantee full-time offers after internships. Some firms prefer to evaluate interns on a case-by-case basis, and the decision may depend on performance, group needs, and market conditions.
  3. Key Considerations:

    • In Toronto, the private equity recruiting landscape is less structured compared to the U.S. Many firms hire from investment banking analysts after 1-2 years of experience rather than directly from undergrad internships.
    • Networking and strong performance during internships are critical to securing a return offer.

If you’re targeting Summer 2026 recruiting, focus on building relationships with professionals at these firms and excelling in your internship. It’s also helpful to explore forums or reach out to alumni for insights into specific firms’ practices in Toronto.

I will start by saying the returns are very unstructured compared to the banks (i.e. if they need headcount and your good) and really depends with timing but below are what I have seen and know from precedents:

  • CPP (though fundamental equities; however, they do not offer direct PE anymore), OTPP, PSP, BCI (although very uncommon but still possible) HOOPP, OMERS
  • Onex / Oncap, no intern program so no
  • Altas, no analyst program so no
  • Novacap, yes
  • TorQuest, yes
  • Imperial, yes
  • Birch Hill, yes
  • Brookfield, not 100% sure

The rest are either really small cap or have very unstructured programs.

I would note the pensions are by far your best bet with the most internal infrastructure in place for a return.

Let me know if I missed any or have heard otherwise.
