PE firms with and without direct promote to VP/Principal
It's been difficult finding an extensive confirmed list of PE and GE firms that do and do not direct promote from Associate to VP / Principal without requiring an MBA. From my understanding, KKR, Apollo, Warburg, Insight, General Atlantic, Silver Lake, Thoma Bravo, and Vista Equity all direct promote whereas Carlyle, TPG, H&F, and CD&R are 2 and out.
Can anyone confirm if this is correct? What about Advent, Permira, TA Associates, Blackstone, and other PE firms?
Why does this need to be a compiled list? Look at their website or type in “Vice President [fund name]” on linkedin and see what there is to see (if people started as associates).
BX does direct promote now
BX does direct promote now for high performers IIRC
Some of the ones you listed vary in how associate friendly it is. Big difference between an assumption you’ll stick around vs only making “stay on” offers to half the class of associates and effectively firing the rest
