Two suggestions:

  • Take a look at their overall portfolio and understand key themes (e.g., generalist shop vs. verticalized/specialized; types of deals (growth equity/minority vs. buyout; value vs. growth)
  • Pick off a few portfolio companies of interest (2-3), do a bit of research (go to website, read press release, see if any recent news or M&A), and have a quick talk track ready for each on why you think the investment is interesting and perhaps 1-2 questions on the firm's thesis or relevant industry news/market trends
 

These portcos are usually private names how do you go about figuring why they are an interesting investment ? Given that you have no info to work with
