PE placement from Super Target + questions about BbB/EB

Freshman at (H/W) with a 3.9-4 gpa. If want to end up in PE (Apollo/BX BCP) whether out of undergrad or after my 2 years in banking what is the best route to take in terms of internships & prep & networking. Also, what are the best groups ranked for banking (EB & BB) in terms of placement for PE. What PE shop right now has the best deal flow and is considered the best and should be what I am aiming for.

If you're coming from a super target with good numbers than aim for JPM, Goldman etc. Can also go the MBB route, however I'm not sure if you're studying business or econ which would be relevant info. Honestly,, the choice is yours, as someone who has "all the cards" you can essentialy choose what you're interested in and what to pursue, almost nothing is out of reach. If you are solely optimizing for an eventual PE placement than stay firmly within BB (EB is less prestigious unless, you want to specialize and thats something that interests) and MBB for internships and job offers.

Thanks - I’ve mostly heard EBs are more intense, hands-on, and have smaller teams, but I was wondering whether BBs offer more flexibility if you’re still figuring things out. Is that generally how people decide between them?

All generally correct, however BB is a better hedge in terms of what you’d do if you can’t break into PE, which on the timeline you’re looking at is tough yet doable. Also note that certain groups in BB like Goldman TMT and Morgan Stanley M&A get the best of both worlds as they are as highly sought after as an EB analyst while still having the BB prestige.
