PE-style Diligence Case Study for an Activist Group

I've been asked to develop a case study / pitch for an activist group of a hedge fund whose diligence style is more similar to that of an private equity firm. That is to say, they have longer hold periods and do deeper diligence on their investments, but their investing takes place in both private and public markets. The sector focus of the strategy is, broadly speaking, technology. I need to select a target and develop a long / short opinion on it. Any thoughts on where to start for target selection / structure of the case study?
