Pre-MBA Associate salaries in PE firms

Anyone know what PE firms are willing to pay pre-MBA associates? Let's say someone leaving McK, BCG, Bain or any of the BB firms. I've heard numbers ranging from 1.5x to 4.0x current earnings.

What!? First of all, no one is compensated on a multiple of current earnings basis... thats not a very good metric, even for your own reference.

From what I've seen, Pre-MBA compensation is generally in the 150-350 range. With $350 being at the top tier megafunds and include carry. I'd say one could reasonably expect to be paid 200-250 in their first year Pre-MBA associate at a decently sized fund ($2B+).

Pre-MBA compensation varies from one fund to the next based on a variety of issues including, in no particular order: prestige, culture, # of professionals, business model, investment strategy, investment horizon, AUM... etc...

How much would this vary by city? Would this range mostly be applicable for NY? All else equal, how would you adjust these numbers in a mid-sized city (population ~ 1MM)?

ehf3660Marcus, I think that very well could have been the answer to end all pre-MBA PE comp questions.

While we would like to think so, someone with a post count of 4 will be on here in a couple days asking the same question.

Oh well.
