Private equity MM Internship interviews
What should I expect for a private equity interview at a 2.5-5 bil fund
for an internship?
Is it the same as a regular interview?
Also keep in mind that I am a freshman and have a connection to the managing partner through family. Will this make a difference?

They aren't going to expect you to know much/anything. Just be able to walk through your résumé, read the WSJ and know what's going on in the broader markets, and have a good reason for why you want to work there. I wouldn't think you will see any technical questions since you are a freshman, but you may see some of the stuff in the WSO behavioral guide.
Know "the news" inside and out, anyone can spend time reading financial news and knowing what's going on in the markets, but they will understand you most likely do not have technical skills. Have a reason for at minimum which finance, if not why private equity as well. Good luck, landing this would be huge.

Pretty much all of your interview is likely going to be behavioral, fit, and "why finance" kinds of questions
Know what a PE firm does high level. Then just be able to talk about yourself and why you are interested as other people said. This will be very key to helping you get future interviews at banks, definitely.
if i'm a graduating senior and just want to up my odds come PE recruiting once i start at my MM IB, is it worth it to intern this last semester of school at a well respected MM PE firm? or will it be irrelevant once i start my FT gig?

Also, on an unrelated note, make sure that this is cool with your future employing bank. I don't imagine there would be a problem, but best to check so you don't have any nasty surprises.

If their interviews are structured, they could throw some case questions at you. Find info on those in other threads or google it.
depends on the position, could be case based if its structured, or if its a small firm with no real structured internships and you got the interview thru cold calling, could be very basic/informal
try and learn as much as you can about the industries they're focused on... obviously it's going to be impossible to become an expert in a week, but read some equity research industry reports and all that so you at least know what some of the basic trends / hot areas are these days
