Q&A (AMA) | Economics, Finance & Asset Management – Ask Me Anything

Hi everyone,

I’m a WSO Mentor and wanted to open up a Q&A for anyone navigating early-career decisions in finance, consulting or asset management. I’ve seen how confusing and noisy the process can be, especially if your path isn’t entirely “standard”, so I’m happy to share what I’ve learned and answer questions honestly.

A bit about my background:

  • MSc in Economics with a strong focus on financial markets, governance and sustainability
  • Practical experience across investment-related roles, including private markets, real assets, reporting and analysis
  • Worked closely with senior stakeholders on investment communication, data-driven decision-making and risk-related topics
  • Familiar with recruiting processes for graduate programs, analyst roles and early-career positions in finance and consulting
  • Have gone through multiple online assessments, case-style interviews and CV screenings myself

What I’m happy to answer questions on:

  • Breaking into finance or consulting without a “classic” background
  • Asset management vs. consulting vs. development finance: how to choose strategically
  • CV and cover letter positioning for competitive graduate and analyst roles
  • Online tests (numerical, verbal, logical, critical reasoning) and how to prepare efficiently
  • Interview prep, case-style questions and how to communicate clearly under pressure
  • Career strategy questions (what actually matters early on, what doesn’t, and common mistakes)

I’ll check this thread on a regular basis, hence feel free to ask direct or nuanced questions. The goal here is to be practical, honest and helpful.

Looking forward to the discussion!
