Quitting PE after 7 months

Long story short — I hated my time in banking. Perpetually stressed, sick, unhappy and things never really got better.

PE hasn’t been better either. If I quit with nothing lined up, can I still get back into PE maybe at a smaller fund?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's not uncommon for people to leave PE or IB due to the high-stress environment and demanding workload. However, it's important to note that leaving a job without another one lined up can be risky.

If you're considering returning to PE at a smaller fund, it might be beneficial to first secure a position before leaving your current one. This could potentially make the transition smoother and less stressful.

Remember, it's crucial to prioritize your health and happiness. If you're feeling perpetually stressed and unhappy, it might be worth exploring other career paths that could provide a better work-life balance.

In the end, it's your decision and you should do what feels right for you. Just remember to weigh all your options and consider the potential consequences before making a decision.

I know it sucks right now but I would HIGHLY caution quitting without something lined up if you plan on staying in the industry. It's easier to get a job when you have a job. Your mental health however is more important and only you can decide the route. Hiring right now is not great and I've had friends leave PE jobs only to be still recruiting 6+ months later.
