Realizing On-Cycle Fit

Not sure if anyone is in the same boat, but wanted to share my experiences just so that people know they're not going through it alone.

Had an on-cycle interview at a MF last night, and came to realize that while I was not at the level of embarassing myself per se, I was also not ready (technically speaking) to be a standout amongst some really tough competition.

It was the firm I wanted most, so it definitely stung to not get the offer, but helped me come to the realization that I don't want to squander any other firms that I like in the hopes of being done by the time the on-cycle frenzy comes to an end.

It'll suck to interview off-cycle, but for me, ultimately the right decision :)

Damn that is super competitive. Didn't realize it was this early either. When would you recommend to start prepping for on-cycle? Second semester senior year of college?

I’ve been told by network contacts this is why on-cycle is so risky. If you mess up, you’re essentially blacklisted from that HH and any associate roles they recruit for. If you don’t think you’re 100% ready, off-cycle is almost always the better choice because those HHs will keep you on their lists as a “wild card” of sorts- plus you’ll get to actually learn whether or not you like your job lmfao
