Recruiting for MF/UMM PE from Non-target but Top Group

Currently joining a top group (GS TMT/MS M&A/EVC M&A) for my SA in a few weeks but ultimately know I want to do PE

Would recruiting for these MF/UMM funds from a non/semi target school with a very average (3.6 GPA) lower my chances? Since these are concrete what can I do to increase my chances? Thanks in advance.
