Senior Associate or MBA?
So I've finished two years of BB IBD, followed by 2 years at a MM PE fund. I was originally planning on applying round 2 to b-school, but have recently considered making a lateral move to another fund, ideally with a promotion to senior associate and considering applying then. Would 6-7 years of work experience be too much for HSW MBA?
The main reason I want to lateral is that fund I'm at, while solid, is relatively new/unknown and doesn't have much of a track record placing candidates into b-schools--I figure moving to a more well known fund with a history of placing people into business school would help with that. If I can't get an offer with one of those funds I can always stay at my current fund for a third year and try my luck for b school after that. If there's not benefit to lateralling though, than I may as well try to apply now. Any thoughts/advice?

Did you go to an undergrad bschool? I think that if you made the switch to Senior Associate and have an undergrad bschool degree, you may not need to get your MBA. Also, I feel like it'd be pretty hard to start from scratch as a Senior Associate somewhere and then 12 months in tell them you want them to write you recommendations for bschool. Just some thoughts/questions.

I think this "now or not at all" strategy makes sense but is "not at all" truly a legitimate option if one wants to advance within the industry to VP and beyond?
Some shops require an MBA to advance, others don't. I think there is a strong case for going for a top MBA, but if you don't want to get one I don't think it is an absolute requirement by any means.
