Should I go back to banking?

Am currently an associate in fund of funds/secondaries/direct lending. Lifestyle and team dynamics are generally good, but promotion timelines feel slower & less guaranteed than banking. I would not want to go back to a lead-left heavy banking team, but the idea of going to a right bookrunner financial sponsors / lev-fin team seems somewhat attractive (given banking snr. associates make 400k+ and I do not, and i could probably become a VP in a year at some banks).

What do people think about the skillset on the buyside vs. sellside and likelihood of having a job in 20 years in each. Is banking more vulnerable to disruption or is the same the case equally for the buyside? am starting to question why everyone is in such a rush to transition to investing roles...
