Taking on more Responsibility

I recently started as an Internal wholesaler. Our office is very small, less then 10 people and throughout the interview process I was very excited that I would get to learn a lot more about private equity, the markets, and similar alternatives.  The owner is in the office a few days a week and leaves his door open and is very nice. the office I work in is walking distance from the owners house and where the internal wholesalers work. there is another office in LA, which is for the Capital Markets guys which our owner rarely ever goes too. I want to learn more and figure out a way to work myself into the actual PE side of things, as opposed to selling our product. Any suggestions in how to do this? I was considering asking if they would sponsor me for CAIA but I wonder if that limits me to continuing down this path. We had a due diligence event last month in Texas and listening to all of the guys speak was super interesting to me and I would love to be in that position down the road. I have only been here a month so trying to position this the best way possible

I would focus on your actual job for at least 6 months by crushing it: doing a high volume of high quality work, both your own work and eventually do your boss’s work as well.

Look for or ask for chances to get coffee or lunch with decision makers in the spirit of mentorship every 6-8 weeks (recurring meets are good).

After you show that you have the *promise* of being a rising star (6 months does not a rising star make), then start to talk to them about where you want your career to go and ask them if they could help you navigate getting to where you want to be.

With our owner being the only decision maker in our office where would you draw the line between being a brownnoser and a hardworker?
