Tech PE funds with analyst positions in London
I am starting an internship at GS / MS this summer and will graduate from LSE / LBS next year. However, I am more interested in starting my career at a tech-focused PE / GE / VC fund. Which tech-focused private equity firms in London offer analyst positions? Do these PE firms recruit via headhunters or through networking? Would be very thankful for any input.
Bump
Silver Lake do. However, I have no idea about the recruitment process. Someone at LSE/ LBS will, and I imagine it's one of those selective processes where they send a PDF to certain candidates / target schools etc. Pretty sure there's a thread on this here somewhere.
They recruited through KEA last year if I remember correctly. And yes, they email specific candidates instead of posting it online. You can also try and talk to members of their investment team to let them know you would be interest in joining the process.
Not sure if it helps, but I got an analyst position at a tech focused small PE shop (~2B AUM) this way: Cold email decision makers on LinkedIn (find their emails on websites like RocketReach) and ask for a meeting to get to know them (can be an interview or general coffee chat). Ask if they need any extra help, so you might start as a 3-month intern. If they don’t ask for people within his/her network and you broaden your network. Most of these analyst positions (excluding mega funds) aren’t advertised.
Works even better if you’re trying to get into VC.
Amazing input, thank you.
How do you position yourself when reaching out? Interested in their firm / trying to learn more about the space / openly state that you're looking for a position?
What level of decision makers do you typically reach out to?
Never mention a position outright. Leverage the fact you are a student and are trying to learn. Ask them about how they got there, career paths, comparison of IB/PE/VC. Ask about their specific industry. But always present yourself as a student with questions and intent to learn. Towards the end of the conversation, mention you are interested in entering the space and ask if they know any people within their network interested in hiring (with luck they would like to hire).
As for decision maker, anything Principal and above (they can influence your hiring and have a larger network). Start with school alumni, they are generally more open to talk.
Think Hg has some analyst positions too but not sure how exactly they recruit for it
