The PE interview LBO: how to get up to speed and how long will it take?

Hey,

So I’m preparing for PE recruiting, based on recent cycles, what is THE best most efficient manner to master the LBO modeling prep needed to crush any form of the LBO modeling needed for interviews? And how LONG will this prep take? Assume I am not in a product Group building LBOs all day.

Is it “just get the most recent WSO guide and do what they say”?

I would think there could be more color here, and that color would be appreciated.

To my understanding there are 3 scenarios; 1. The paper 2. The one hour model 3. The three hour mode

Questions with the above: - Where can I effectively prepare for any curveballs relating to the above? Aka, I’m sure the WSO guide is good, but it surely won’t cover ALL the bases will it? - Will head hunters ever ask you to do one? If so which? - Do all major on cycle firms have you do all three? Or do some just have you do 1 & 2? - Any other pro tips on these models? I have found the process to be long and painful trying to rebuild precedents. - Is this the hardest technical part of the interview process? - Do any firms in particular have more insane tests than others? If so, which?

In addition to LBO questions: - What’s the best way to study for recruiting while at work? (Without being obvious) Again, I feel rebuilding old stuff has a pretty low ceiling to helping prepare.

Thanks so much in advance.
