The Phantom of the Autism--Email And Learning to Deal with Boomer's Asks in a Didactic Way

My former internship bosses asked me to apply to a fund they advise for after I left their current company. I emailed them around Advent--they said "we'd love to shoe you in--reach out to us in 3-4 weeks and I'll let you know what I can do".

21 days pass. No fewer. No more.

"Mr sir ceo boss, can I ask for the cover required to appear as though you are not pushing me into your company outright"

"sure OP--just apply on this website and use me for a referall".

I do that--and the website's link is dead. EVERY SINGLE UNDERGRADUATE SPOT IS FILLED.

Now I COULD just apply for the MBA role....but I don't wanna explain why I fibbed my 'GMAT' score when Ionly took a practice GMAT and got an average score to begin with! For real, the CEO was really enthused about me working for him last summer--why did he just go "ok well GL ngigah" when I said his website's link was fucked?

What do I do? It's been 3 weeks. Should I grovel to the Mr Boss Man to open up a spot for me at hte UG level--were it not for the 3 weeks of performative 'waiting because you said to!' I woudln't be figuring out a Seinfeld episode and trying to figure out what the fuck I'm going to do for the Summer.

I lived a sort of sheltered life, my dads have zero idea how to deal with something like this, and we are NOT fancy people. What should I say? I do have a bit of the 'tism but moreover I really really feel like I either got bad=jacketed between the first 'hey how do you do I want to work for your side hustle like you said I would 3 days ago" and the second email which was "oh hey your company's internship has filled? what would you like to do with that information?"
I am so autistic but very polite/deferential because of it

Based on the most helpful WSO content, navigating such a situation requires a blend of professionalism, persistence, and tact. Here's a structured approach to handle this scenario:

  1. Immediate Follow-Up: Since the website link provided was not functioning and all undergraduate spots are filled, it's crucial to communicate this issue promptly to your former internship bosses or the CEO. A polite and concise email explaining the situation would be appropriate. Mention that you attempted to apply as instructed but encountered technical difficulties with the website.

  2. Request for Guidance: Instead of directly asking for a spot to be opened for you, it might be more effective to ask for their advice on how to proceed given the circumstances. This shows your eagerness to find a solution while respecting their position and the company's processes.

  3. Clarify Your Position: If the topic of applying for an MBA role comes up, be honest about your GMAT score situation. It's better to be upfront about not having an official GMAT score than to provide misleading information.

  4. Explore Alternative Solutions: Ask if there might be other opportunities within the fund or associated companies that could be a fit for your skills and interests. Sometimes, new positions can be created for the right candidate, or there might be other roles that haven't been advertised yet.

  5. Leverage Your Network: If you have built a good relationship with your former internship bosses, this is the time to lean on that rapport. Express your genuine interest in contributing to the fund and how much you valued their mentorship and guidance during your internship.

  6. Stay Professional and Positive: Despite the frustration and confusion, maintain a professional tone in all communications. Your ability to handle setbacks and challenges gracefully can leave a lasting positive impression.

  7. Seek Advice from Trusted Sources: Since you mentioned feeling somewhat out of your depth due to a sheltered upbringing, consider seeking advice from career services at your school, mentors, or other professionals in your network. They can offer perspective and potentially assist in navigating this situation.

Remember, the finance industry is small, and how you handle this situation can impact your reputation. Demonstrating professionalism, resilience, and a proactive approach can only work in your favor.

Hard to follow this, but I'll do my best.

Have you actually reached back out to the guy trying to help you out? "hey the website looks like it's down now - any advice on how I can best proceed? Would be great to work together again"

Indeed I have-- "OK, good luck searching". That's all. Seemed excited before but that's all that he said when I brought up filled openings and dead link.

Summary: Boss is excited for me to work at side PE firm,

He said "email me in 3 weeks". I do exactly that

Time's up, job's taken

I hint that the roles were closed; he said "ok gtfo"

What do I do now?

I will NEVERRRRRRR ever get in someplace else man--I'm actually sorta doing a 3rd 'semester of the same year' at college and getting actually fucked trying to salvage my finance launchpad. Believe me--I've actually been trying, and this sort of "in" I had at this other place wasn't even my 2nd choice.

What should I tell someone, where thsi can get fixed? Caues right now I feel like everyone's fixing my balls (cutting them off financially :*()

Thanks

similar thing happened to me but some jew supremacist railroaded my career because 'they' (everyone if your'e working with a SHE THEY get out of that social setting ASAP) accused me of being insensitive for bringing FETA CHEESE instead of some cheese her husband wanted (her husband does NOT have any dietary restrictions and is a gentile asian male).

She literally-and yes i hve texted records of this--went around every good fund in my social network and researched the fuck out of my LInkedin to fuck all of my exit opps to deaf. She actually has my former 'FRieNdZ" whipped andshe isn't even banging 3/4 of them ( i hope- she sure discusses her husband's and her sex life in public, somehow my bringing the wrong cheese is a move unforgivable.

Oy fucking vey)
