Thinking like an Investor (Infrastructure)

Would anyone be willing to share resources that helped them develop an "investor mindset" relative to infra (power, utilities). Obviously this comes with time and experience, but was wondering if there's anything out there to help for interviews later down the road. For example, how would you think about revenue drivers/risk-reward profile when the space is heavily regulated (rate bases)? Might be a dumb question, but genuinely curious. Thanks!

Hey there, fellow finance enthusiast! Developing an investor mindset, especially in the infrastructure sector, is indeed a journey that comes with time and experience. But don't worry, I've got some nuggets of wisdom to share that might help you on your way.

Firstly, understanding the investment thesis for infrastructure is crucial. This sector is unique because it's less correlated to GDP and serves as an inflation hedge, but still has potential for some outperformance.

Secondly, the breadth of the infrastructure sector is vast, encompassing power & renewables, utilities, airports, toll roads, hospitals, data centres, and more. As a junior, you can gain a wide range of industry experience without pigeonholing yourself.

Thirdly, it's important to understand the regulatory environment, as it's a significant driver for utilities. Infrastructure is meant to sit somewhere above debt but below traditional PE in terms of risk.

Lastly, public equities are not a good indicator of infrastructure performance. Many pure infrastructure investors see a good discount, and more take privates are likely on the horizon.

For more insights, I'd recommend checking out these threads on Wall Street Oasis: - https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/overview-of-infrastructure-priva…</a">Overview of Infrastructure Private Equity - https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/renewable-energy-pe-overview</a">Renewable Energy PE Overview - https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/qa-infrastructure-pe-ibd</a">Q&A - Infrastructure PE & IBD

Remember, the key to developing an investor mindset is to stay curious, keep learning, and never be afraid to ask questions. Good luck on your journey!
