Use Cases For Claude Cowork / Claude Code

Our firm has been using an enterprise Claude subscription for about a year now. We finally just got access to Cowork and Code. Would be great to use this thread as a repository to share good use cases folks have come up with, especially that are well suited to Cowork / Code vs the standard Claude interface (i.e. we have been using skills and artifacts for a while, but am trying to ascertain where we should be using Cowork and Code).

For reference, uses cases I use most commonly include:

  • Skill for CIM pre-read that produces a ~4 page objective memo on a CIM we receive before reading myself. Has reference documents that details our investment approach, key business attributes we look for and focus on, key financials we like to review initially at early stages (also produces a table with all of these for the historicals and sellside model), etc. It does a pretty great job of giving an objective read, and importantly flags all number of banker-isms and potential things that are being intentionally hidden or omitted, while being objective.
  • Dashboard (as a Claude artifact) that tracks meeting cadence with bankers, essentially providing a live view of how "on track" you are with the set of bankers in your coverage that you want to meet with (including based on assigned target cadence, i.e. annually, semi annually, quarterly), and proposes a schedule for meetings with specific bankers ranked on how out of cadence you are, pulling data on meetings from our CRM / Outlook
  • Various checking skills for models and memos: tying out decks and models, calling out inconsistences or contradictions between quantitative assumptions and qualitative commentary, identifying hard errors (BS doesn't tie and the source of the bust, places where something is not dynamic but should be, stale or busted data tables)
  • Scheduled news runs on industries for the portfolio companies I cover
  • VDR parsing & data aggregation / searching

Would love to hear what everyone else is finding useful, especially for Cowork / Code and generally where you find Cowork and / or Code to be better approaches than the standard Claude interface.

Happy prompting!

P.S. Is there ever a good excuse for a bank sending you a deck that doesn't tie out now? I can't believe every analyst / associate isn't dropping their deck into an LLM and asking for comments...

Based on the highest ranked content on WSO, I can see you're already leveraging Claude quite sophisticatedly for PE work! While my knowledge base doesn't contain specific discussions about Claude Cowork/Code use cases in finance, I can share some insights from WSO's tech-focused threads that might help you think about where these tools could add value.

Where Cowork/Code Likely Excel vs Standard Claude

Cowork seems ideal for: - Collaborative deal team workflows - Your CIM pre-read skill could be enhanced in Cowork where multiple team members can iterate on the analysis simultaneously - Live portfolio monitoring - Your banker meeting dashboard could benefit from real-time collaboration during partner meetings or deal committee discussions - Cross-functional model reviews - Having your checking skills run in a shared environment where analysts, associates, and VPs can all see and comment on model issues in real-time

Code would be powerful for: - Custom VDR parsing scripts - Building more sophisticated data extraction tools that can handle complex document structures - Automated model tie-out checking - Creating more robust validation scripts that can handle your firm's specific modeling standards - Integration with your existing tech stack - Connecting Claude's analysis directly to your CRM, Outlook, and other systems

Additional Use Cases to Consider

Based on WSO discussions about AI in finance, you might explore:

Deal Sourcing & Screening: - Automated screening of potential targets based on your investment criteria - Industry trend analysis that feeds into your sourcing strategy

Due Diligence Enhancement: - Management presentation analysis (similar to your CIM work but for mgmt decks) - Competitive landscape mapping from public filings and industry reports

Portfolio Company Support: - Board deck analysis and prep - KPI tracking and variance analysis across portfolio companies

You're absolutely right about banks having no excuse for decks that don't tie out anymore - the technology is there, and frankly, any analyst not using these tools is working with one hand tied behind their back.

What specific pain points are you hoping Cowork/Code will solve that your current Claude setup doesn't handle well?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some potential use cases and insights for leveraging Claude Cowork and Claude Code effectively, especially in comparison to the standard Claude interface:

Use Cases for Claude Cowork:

  1. Collaborative Document Review:

    • Use Cowork to collaboratively review CIMs, pitch decks, or investment memos in real-time with your team. It can flag inconsistencies, banker jargon, or missing data points while allowing multiple users to interact with the document simultaneously.
    • Ideal for team-based workflows where multiple stakeholders need to provide input or feedback on the same document.
  2. Meeting Preparation and Follow-Up:

    • Enhance your banker meeting cadence dashboard by integrating Cowork for collaborative scheduling and follow-ups. Cowork can help teams align on meeting priorities, share notes, and track action items in one place.
    • Use it to collaboratively draft agendas or post-meeting summaries, ensuring everyone is on the same page.
  3. Live Brainstorming and Strategy Sessions:

    • Cowork can be used for brainstorming sessions where team members contribute ideas for deal strategies, portfolio management, or investment theses. The tool can organize and prioritize inputs in real-time.
  4. Team Training and Onboarding:

    • Create interactive training modules or onboarding sessions for new hires. Cowork can guide users through firm-specific processes, such as investment evaluation criteria or CRM usage, while allowing for Q&A and feedback.

Use Cases for Claude Code:

  1. Model Auditing and Debugging:

    • Claude Code can be a game-changer for checking financial models. It can identify errors like broken links, non-dynamic formulas, or inconsistencies between qualitative and quantitative data. This is particularly useful for ensuring decks and models tie out before client presentations.
  2. Custom Script Development:

    • Use Claude Code to develop scripts for automating repetitive tasks, such as data extraction from VDRs, CRM updates, or generating financial summaries. It can also assist in creating macros for Excel or other tools.
  3. Data Parsing and Aggregation:

    • Leverage Claude Code for parsing large datasets from VDRs or other sources. It can aggregate and organize data into usable formats, saving significant time during due diligence.
  4. Integration with Existing Tools:

    • Claude Code can help build integrations between your CRM, Outlook, and other enterprise tools. For example, automating the extraction of meeting data and syncing it with your banker cadence dashboard.
  5. Scheduled Industry News Updates:

    • Automate the creation of industry news summaries for portfolio companies. Claude Code can pull data from multiple sources, filter relevant updates, and format them into concise reports.

Why Use Cowork/Code Over Standard Claude Interface?

  • Cowork: Best for collaborative, team-oriented tasks where multiple users need to interact with the same data or document in real-time. It excels in scenarios requiring alignment and shared input.
  • Code: Ideal for technical tasks like coding, debugging, and automation. It provides a more specialized environment for handling structured data, scripts, and integrations.

Additional Thoughts:

  • Deck Quality Control: You're absolutely right—there's no excuse for a bank sending a deck that doesn't tie out. With tools like Claude Code, analysts and associates should be running their decks through LLMs to catch errors before submission. This should be a standard practice in the industry.

Would love to hear how others are using these tools and any creative applications you've come across!
