Top West Coast PE Funds
Hey ya'll,
This is a continuation to my previous post (link here). Happy to report that I did not work a 6th Saturday in a row. Took some time to watch batman, get brunch, and responded to some of the HH emails in my inbox. Most HH's wanted a top 3 so I listed SF, LA, NYC (just in case lol) in that order. Planning on taking some time off in the next month or so to visit some old friends out west, and get a solid feel for things in person before the recruitment cycle concludes and I have to make a decision.
Was curious on some input on some of the better funds out West. Looked on the forum for this topic but a lot of threads are several years old and it's a rapidly evolving industry. I know a lot of the NYC funds have satellite offices there but it's hard to tell which are serious offices and which are 5 Partners and 2 accountants in a glorified WeWork. Open to UMM, MFs, and GE so fire away with ideas. As long as the role isn't Apollo or something that psychologically castrates me more than I already have in my time thus far at GS. Trying to keep it light hearted but in all serious, appreciate all the helpful advice and feedback thus far. Have a few ideas in mind, TPG Growth, Ares, Silverlake, Golden Gate, TA, etc...Really just hoping to get a large list of names, and I'll take the time to scrub and research afterwards to find proper fit.
Thanks again
SF
MF: Silver Lake, Vista, KKR TMT, TPG/TPG Growth, H&F, TB, Carlyle TMT
UMM: Francisco, AKKR, Genstar, Evergreen Coast, Permira, Golden Gate, TA, GI Partners
MM: FFL, Gryphon, Serent, HGGC, Sumeru, Symphony Technology
LA
MF: APO, Ares, Oaktree (more credit than PE)
UMM: LGP, Marlin, Clearlake, Platinum Equity
MM: LL, Shamrock, Brentwood, Aurora
Where would Freeman Spogli and Seidler Equity Partners in LA rank? UMM or MM?
Freeman is MM
Would add WP and Alpine to your list for SF
.
From the WP website it would seem that their SF branch is just a few professionals covering Tech correct?
How is Shamrock? Good firm? Thats the disney FO right?
.
Who are the recruiters for the MM shops in LA?
Some other names SF
HG/WCAS - office but not headquartered
Luminate/Vector - mm tech buyouts
Berkshire has an SF office now?
Alpine
I noticed on LinkedIn that Alpine exclusively hires analysts that they promote to associates (didn’t see any former IB analysts). Is it possible to exit to Alpine? I Appreciate any insights
Sixth Street in SF as well
Top Shop
Altamont in the bay area (Golden Gate spinout).
Sixth Street
SF MF Buyout:
KKR (TMT, Consumer Retail, Industrials), CVC (Consumer / Tech Buyout), TPG (IDMC, Business Services, Industrials, Consumer, Software + Enterprise Tech), Permira (Tech Buyout + Growth), Silver Lake Menlo, Thoma Bravo (believe Growth and some of flagship / Discover sits in SF), a couple folks at Vista (though this is a smaller satellite office, similar to Carlyle Tech), H&F (Generalist), Advent (Tech Buyout + Growth in Palo Alto), Blackstone PE (Tech focus), Warburg Pincus (smaller office, mostly focused on tech)
Do any of these firms ever hire MBB/T2 consultants?
Would add that Audax has a growing SF office if you want a MM/UMM generalist experience
Yes, but OP specified firms that don't "psychologically castrate" you so that rules out Audax for sure
Think Genstar and Permia are best bet for good culture and great overall experience. H&F/SLP as well if you are willing to deal with bit tougher culture and hours
Haha fair, do you think Audax SF is as brutal as Audax Boston?
