Transition from Banking to IR
I'm currently weighing a transition from BB to IR, and understand that this is becoming a more frequent career pivot. For those who have made the move, what were the main reasons you wanted to switch? Would also be interested in learning how you like the job compared to banking, what you think is better, what you miss, etc. I ultimately want a job that is still interesting/fulfilling but less unpredictable than banking in the long run, so trying to see if IR would be a good path.

Seeing this pivot more and more frequently to your point. Some of the most common reasons are (1) better lifestyle - (you will be busy during fundraising (60+ hours) but pretty chill in-between cycles), (2) pay (great comp/access to co-invest and carry) and (3) better career for relationship management/sales (if that’s your thing).
If you’re looking for a front-office PE role that isn’t as stressful/demanding as an investment professional while still retaining some of the key benefits of PE and like relationship-management it’s a great career path.
Are you in the role now? And how did you break in?
