Turn/River Capital Process

Hey monkeys, got a 2nd rd with Turn/River Capital for the analyst role. Description seems to be heavily sourcing focused, was wondering if anyone have some insights onto what to expect? (I already did the voicemail assignment and 1st rd with HR)

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Turn/River Capital is known for its focus on sourcing, as you've mentioned. For a second-round interview for an analyst role, you can generally expect the following:

  • Deep Dive into Your Background: They will likely want to understand your previous experience, especially any that relates to sourcing or sales. Be prepared to discuss your resume in detail.

  • Technical Questions: Even though the role is sourcing-focused, a good grasp of financial concepts is crucial. Brush up on valuation techniques, financial modeling, and maybe even some LBO models.

  • Sourcing Strategies: They might ask about your approach to sourcing deals. Think about how you would identify and reach out to potential investment opportunities.

  • Scenario-Based Questions: Be ready for hypothetical scenarios where you might have to explain how you would handle certain situations in a sourcing role.

  • Cultural Fit: Turn/River will likely assess how well you would fit into their team and culture. Be yourself, but also research the firm's values and work environment.

Since you've completed a voicemail assignment and had a first round with HR, the second round might involve more team members and be more in-depth. It's always a good idea to review the first round and any feedback you might have received to prepare for the next steps.

Remember, every firm has its unique process, so while the above points are based on general insights, the actual interview could have specific nuances unique to Turn/River Capital. Good luck!

Have interviewed with several growth style firms before. In my experience, you shouldn't expect anything particularly technical at all - more so general knowledge on their portfolio companies and some general thoughts on specific sectors in SaaS.

I would note though having known people who worked at T/R before that the analyst role is not particularly attractive in terms of the skillset it builds. Every venture or growth analyst role will have a sourcing component, yes, but some are substantially better than others because they include elements of diligence and deal follow through in addition to sourcing. T/R unfortunately is entirely focused on cold calling, with little improvement at the associate level from what I hear. Just know what you're getting yourself into.

Interviewed with them recently -- the second phone call interview was with a member of the investment team who seemed highly uninterested in speaking with me before I even got a chance to introduce myself. Basic questions such as walk through my background, why investing, interests in b2b/saas companies, etc. No matter what I said, couldn't seem to get any response from the interviewer. Have heard some negative things about the analyst program, and also was fairly put off by the second interview, so not too unhappy I didn't progress beyond it.

Bump... Does anyone have insight into the complete Analyst interview process?
