Understanding the Headhunter Landscape

Hi all,

Currently an IB analyst (BB/UMM, Coverage) looking to learn a bit more about the PE recruiting process. After looking for some information on Headhunters, I have only come back with this discussion mentioning a couple top names in recent times.

I was wondering if any of our more experienced/buy-side members could answer a few questions for those of us looking to recruit out so that we can create a more comprehensive discussion:

  1. What are the top HH firms to work with today, and what do they specialize in?

  2. What are the HH firms that should be avoided?

  3. What does the recruiting process look like with a Headhunter? (i.e., how intensive is the vetting process, and how open should one be with their HH?)
