Genuinely curious what business this was...

Seconded. Their largest ever equity check (2021) will almost certainly be a zero when the dust finally settles. Their underwrite was so obviously out of touch with a mathematically determinable reality.

Their largest equity check ever has been their top performer in three of their previous funds (hint: not CoreLogic). Has made them over $5bn across those investments…

Not sure what info you are seeing, but returns have been stellar last I saw (last marks I saw were in ‘22 to be fair). I don’t work at SPC, but would love to have the opportunity.

I work in HF but cover financials and have plenty of friends in FIG PE (I also used to work in FIG PE)

I’ve heard horrible things about stone point / how they’re by far the dumbest FIG investor. Returns are atrocious. It’s a clown show. Not sure why you’d want to work at a fund like that.

Flip side, who would you consider some of the best FIG investors? I was under the impression Stone Point was a solid shop and the people were smart, if a bit socially awkward. Have spoken to a couple of their team on more fintechy assets and they all seemed good, just not the most talkative. That said, anyone paying top dollar in 2020-2022 is going to be hurting.

I've spoken to people across different PE funds (UMM and MF), and the general consensus seems to be that SPC is among the best (if not the best) FIG investors in the private markets. Additionally, their returns for their last fund which closed at $9B in 2022 were quite good and they just closed a $3B co-invest deal with CD&R for Truist Insurance which seems promising.

Definitely the best FIG PE shop out there, whether you define that by size or performance

Outside of MF, what firms stand with Stone Point as best for FIG? Do any firms focus specifically on insurance tech in PE?
