Want to switch groups at a MF - any advice how to navigate?

Currently at a MF and looking to switch to a group that's faster growing, is more of a focus area for the firm, and has better leadership. There's a bit of overlap in the strategies but not a whole lot (e.g. looking to move from KKR real estate to KKR infra - not these specific groups, purely an example), and I don't know anyone in the group i'm targeting. Any advice on how to navigate such a move / network into the new team? My group/firm generally isn't one with a ton of internal mobility, so I don't want to raise my hand to my current team requesting to switch, in case I eventually interview and don't get the new role. Relationship with my superiors has been great and I'm generally well-regarded - so don't want to sour that without having an offer in hand (they would definitely take something like this personally). I always come across people's profiles at, say, GS, who've been in 3 groups in 5 years and curious how they managed to navigate that. Any help on how to think about this would be appreciated!

I would say first to wait until you have been with the firm for at least 1 year to move.

In the meantime, just reach out to people in the other team in a friendly way. Make it look like you just want to expand your network across the firm and make sure they know you. Keep staying close to them until you understand there is an opportunity to move and then signal your interest down the line but don't be too pushy

Any examples? Do people take these things personally--seems like it's just a business/career development decision
