What chance do I have

Okay...I want everyone to be honest...I would really like to pursue a career in Private Equity..but what chances do I have of getting into this field?

Here are my stats:

University of Paris, France- majoring in Econ (every one of my subjects is in French and I'm not French)

GPA: 3.0 on a good day

Work Experience -not a shred in the financial sector but I have supported myself throughout school by working both full time and part time.

Personality- Great personality and am quite pretty (albeit not very humble)

Extracurriculars- Don't have much time but I do volunteer work for some charities, I like running and I play the piano

Contacts- zilch

Languages- English (mother tongue), French (fluent--obviously), and a smattering of German and Spanish

Okay, that was like a mini resume..but there we go..that's me...please don't be cruel..if I don't have any chance then please give me advice on how to overcome this..

Thanks!

I'm sorry to say, but my guess is that you would have very little chance in getting into PE (assuming you are talking straight out of undergrad). The GPA is the main thing that will hurt you. A 3.0 for Econ is not competitive at all. Normally, you could leverage work experience to help make up for the GPA, but whatever jobs you had to get you through school will most likely not turn heads. Being able to speak multiple languages is something that is good however. Depending on what year you are in, I would tell you to try to raise your GPA as much as possible. Also, try to get an internship, anywhere finance related (again, I'm assuming you still have some time left in undergrad). If you are graduating soon, look for a job in I-Banking instead of straight to PE. You may have to look only at smaller, boutique banks however, as you are not a very attractive candidate at BBs. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback...that wasn't such a bad verdict...yes..I'm still an undergrad and I have about a year and a half to go (if all goes well...the French system is really tough..) I guess I really don't have much of an excuse for a bad GPA but it is pretty disheartening to know that my work experience (Eng teacher and language distribution agency) doesn't really count...plus..it's hard to get a good GPA when you study in a language that's not your own..but anyway..thanks for the reply..I'll follow your advice!

Elaine, I hope you don't look like the actual Elaine because she's not pretty at all, on the other hand, if you work on yourself a little more and make yourself look hot and dress sexily, you have a shot at getting a job anywhere, be it PE or HF.
