What internal operating system does your PE firm use?
I work at a LMM fund that manages all of our investments/portfolio companies using only email, Microsoft excel, and a lot of brute force from the juniors. I come from a large commercial banking background where we had enterprise systems that managed/housed all of the portfolio paperwork/accounting/admin work/ etc. for us. I am finding it hard to do be successful at my core job function of analyzing deal opportunities because I spend 80% of my time now chasing files and doing very manual admin work because we have no systems or processes to manage anything. The partners don’t seem to care or understand how inefficient it is.
Does anyone else in the LMM space have this problem? For those who don’t, what systems do you use to manage all of your investments? ERP, CRM, etc.
MF and it isn't any better lol. Except that we have support staff that I guess helps take care of some of the burdens.
Mind-boggling how inefficient PE can be given one of the core value strategy is increasing operational efficiencies lol
We use Salesforce at my MF
DealCloud - pretty useful overall although we still manage to use hundreds of different Excel trackers separately lol
PE firms are run by very weak managers in most cases; this is because they've only managed high $$$ employees.
Similar dynamics popular in some forms of SaaS.
Tis abhorrent.
Salesforce or DealCloud seem to be most common
DealCloud
Thanks for all the responses everyone.
Does anyone know a ballpark number for DealCloud pricing?
Depends on customization etc. But have heard $250k annually for a few shops I have worked at/have friends at
Great to know! Thank you.
